Where do you draw the line? What do you stand for? Is it more important to you to conserve the good things that are already here, or is it more important to liberate new possibilities?

It’s all good.

But there’s this one simple trick!

The Big Picture:

My big goal that is getting very much closer, thanks to generous donations, is starting a non-profit community resource hub with resident artists, techies, and educators all working with the community to find creative solutions using available resources to serve the needs of the community members freely and unconditionally so that everyone can be their best possible selves. I’m currently (Summer 2018) starting to seriously look for (very cheap) property, ideally an old farm, probably in mid-coast Maine, and seeking folks who can help figure out the legal stuff of starting a non-profit or whatever, and putting the property into a trust so that it’s always there to serve the needs of those who live there.

I’ve also created a Patreon creator account for those who believe that my work is valuable and who have an excess number of banking points (aka $’s, £’s, ¥, or whatever).

Safe Spaces for Mammalian Memes

.

We’re seeing history repeat itself, on a higher level now. We kinda know how the story of the dinosaurs’ genes went, and now we can see the dinosaur memes flame out too, to be recycled into informational fuel for the future.

While that happens, our small, furry, pro-social, creative memes need a place to hide out for a while. We can CREATE spaces for us to be safe, while we focus on taking excellent care of the basic needs of the small resourceful groups that are starting to spread out into the cracks and crevices of our planet, staying well away from the oversized, aggressive, dangerous beasts of centralized corporations and national governments.

You can join me in working to make truly safe spaces for all of our mammalian memes, and the bodies that contain them, or just go for it on your own, in your own local spaces.

It might not be the most comfortable time on the Earth right now, but if we focus on the best stuff, in small, decentralized ways, we just need to hang tight for a bit, and then we’ll finally inherit the Earth.

Happy Summer Solstice!

Love,
Turil

How do we bring our own personal values, of what we most want to get from the universe, and most want to share with the universe, into the internet culture and economy?

I explore a bit about what value is, and ask for ideas and help for incorporating our priorities, in some quantifiable way, into our communications online, in social media, government, education, and basic physical needs.

TWTS – How to Know What’s Right and True

TWTSicon

TWTS – Episode 75 – How to Know What is Right and True

DOWNLOAD (right click to save linked file): TWTS – Episode 75 – How to Know What is Right and True

.

The title of this is a good old fashioned bait and switch, really. That’s because I want to talk about the question itself. I want to talk about these concepts of “right and wrong” and “true and false”.

These ideas are based in a limited, one dimensional, linear view of reality, which, while useful sometimes, is generally ineffective in the long term, and/or on large scales. To get a more effective view of reality, we can look at things from a higher dimension, with more complexity, seeing how reality is like a tree branching outwards in a fractal pattern. It’s not always easy! But it’s worth it if we want to find good solutions to our problems and gain more joy and meaning in life.

Ultimately, from the perspective of the center of the universe, “right” is just a subjective direction. All directions are “right” if every direction is available and interesting and moving reality forward, or “true”, just like every branch of a tree is the right branch.

So, whatever you do, and whomever you are, is what’s right, from the universe’s perspective.

TWTS – The Best… For What Purpose?

TWTSicon

TWTS – Episode 74 – The Best… For What Purpose?

.

When we are asking for the “best” option or solution to a problem, it’s very useful to also be clear about:

Why are we asking the question? (Who, specifically, are we trying to help, and what are we specifically trying to help them get or do?)

How are the complex probabilities, and values of each option/solution, being simplified (to reach a single “best” answer)?

Bias, aka, subjective perspective, is a necessary part of a healthy, diverse system, but it can be problematic when we’re not aware of why individuals are coming up with dramatically different answers to what can seem, on the surface, like the exact same question.

For example, when asking an important question such as “Do we want to vaccinate ourselves and/or our children?” we can look at what our own, personal, goals are in life, what the options available to us are, how we give weight to the different possibilities, and what the probability is that the “best” choice is going to help us achieve our goals, relative to what the probabilities are that the other choices will get us to where we want to be.

And then we can seek to understand all of these things — goals, available options, and assessed probabilities — for everyone else who’s asking the same question and getting different answers, whether those others are animals, vegetables, or minerals even (computers, etc.).

Of course, understanding why their “weird” answers are the “best” from their perspective doesn’t mean that our own best answers aren’t the best for us. We might not need to change our own ideas about the best answers to our own problems when learning about others at all, since our own goals and options are probably different. But even so, getting to know a little more more about others’ thought processes is just a healthy way to feel more comfortable with the diversity of goals, and approaches to those goals, that life creates.

Or, we can skip the deep exploration of why and how, and just trust that life is doing what it needs to do, as we individually learn how to take excellent care of the specific people, places, and things that we find most precious.

Also, ultimately, we can become aware of the reality that life, as a whole, has to explore all the different options for all the different tactics, so that every time living organisms are thrust into new situations and new environments, there is someone, somewhere, capable of navigating through the new territory effectively, specifically because of their particularly abnormal modus operandi.

As strange as others’ answers might seem to us, and our answers might seem to them, all of our answers, and our thinking processes, are probably important for the success of life as a whole.

We can use our old stories to tell new stories, and make new habits by choosing to engage in practice work that prepares us to create, explore, dream, and do, in more effective ways when we are faced with life’s bigger challenges. And the more regularly we choose to play with these rituals of connecting with ourselves and others in meaningful ways, the more comfortable we can become as we navigate through the flow that is a robust and rewarding life.
