The Big Picture:

My big goal that is getting very much closer, thanks to generous donations, is starting a non-profit community resource hub with resident artists, techies, and educators all working with the community to find creative solutions using available resources to serve the needs of the community members freely and unconditionally so that everyone can be their best possible selves. I’m currently (Summer 2018) starting to seriously look for (very cheap) property, ideally an old farm, probably in mid-coast Maine, and seeking folks who can help figure out the legal stuff of starting a non-profit or whatever, and putting the property into a trust so that it’s always there to serve the needs of those who live there.

I’ve also created a Patreon creator account for those who believe that my work is valuable and who have an excess number of banking points (aka $’s, £’s, ¥, or whatever).

How do we bring our own personal values, of what we most want to get from the universe, and most want to share with the universe, into the internet culture and economy?

I explore a bit about what value is, and ask for ideas and help for incorporating our priorities, in some quantifiable way, into our communications online, in social media, government, education, and basic physical needs.

.

The title of this is a good old fashioned bait and switch, really. That’s because I want to talk about the question itself. I want to talk about these concepts of “right and wrong” and “true and false”.

These ideas are based in a limited, one dimensional, linear view of reality, which, while useful sometimes, is generally ineffective in the long term, and/or on large scales. To get a more effective view of reality, we can look at things from a higher dimension, with more complexity, seeing how reality is like a tree branching outwards in a fractal pattern. It’s not always easy! But it’s worth it if we want to find good solutions to our problems and gain more joy and meaning in life.

Ultimately, from the perspective of the center of the universe, “right” is just a subjective direction. All directions are “right” if every direction is available and interesting and moving reality forward, or “true”, just like every branch of a tree is the right branch.

So, whatever you do, and whomever you are, is what’s right, from the universe’s perspective.

TWTS – The Best… For What Purpose?

TWTS – Episode 74 – The Best… For What Purpose?

DOWNLOAD (right click to save linked file): TWTS – Episode 74 – The Best… For What Purpose?

.

When we are asking for the “best” option or solution to a problem, it’s very useful to also be clear about:

Why are we asking the question? (Who, specifically, are we trying to help, and what are we specifically trying to help them get or do?)

How are the complex probabilities, and values of each option/solution, being simplified (to reach a single “best” answer)?

Bias, aka, subjective perspective, is a necessary part of a healthy, diverse system, but it can be problematic when we’re not aware of why individuals are coming up with dramatically different answers to what can seem, on the surface, like the exact same question.

For example, when asking an important question such as “Do we want to vaccinate ourselves and/or our children?” we can look at what our own, personal, goals are in life, what the options available to us are, how we give weight to the different possibilities, and what the probability is that the “best” choice is going to help us achieve our goals, relative to what the probabilities are that the other choices will get us to where we want to be.

And then we can seek to understand all of these things — goals, available options, and assessed probabilities — for everyone else who’s asking the same question and getting different answers, whether those others are animals, vegetables, or minerals even (computers, etc.).

Of course, understanding why their “weird” answers are the “best” from their perspective doesn’t mean that our own best answers aren’t the best for us. We might not need to change our own ideas about the best answers to our own problems when learning about others at all, since our own goals and options are probably different. But even so, getting to know a little more more about others’ thought processes is just a healthy way to feel more comfortable with the diversity of goals, and approaches to those goals, that life creates.

Or, we can skip the deep exploration of why and how, and just trust that life is doing what it needs to do, as we individually learn how to take excellent care of the specific people, places, and things that we find most precious.

Also, ultimately, we can become aware of the reality that life, as a whole, has to explore all the different options for all the different tactics, so that every time living organisms are thrust into new situations and new environments, there is someone, somewhere, capable of navigating through the new territory effectively, specifically because of their particularly abnormal modus operandi.

As strange as others’ answers might seem to us, and our answers might seem to them, all of our answers, and our thinking processes, are probably important for the success of life as a whole.

We can use our old stories to tell new stories, and make new habits by choosing to engage in practice work that prepares us to create, explore, dream, and do, in more effective ways when we are faced with life’s bigger challenges. And the more regularly we choose to play with these rituals of connecting with ourselves and others in meaningful ways, the more comfortable we can become as we navigate through the flow that is a robust and rewarding life.

Combine Burning Man together with a farmers’ market with a library and a mini forest, and maybe that’s a bit like what a neighborhood in our future cities will be like. The ultimate in multi-use urban development, emerging out of a combination of technology, specialization, networking, and good old fashioned humanity getting messy and doing the really meaningful and awesome work that needs doing.

Not like Blade Runner. Way more friendly, fun, diverse, and welcoming. For everyone.

Future cities are places you really want to live at least some of the time. While also leaving some of the time, to go off on your own for a while. And then return to, to share and reconnect.

You only get fake answers when you ask fake questions. Fake answers are great when we are looking for some nice fiction, but when we want more honest, meaningful, personal, and important answers with which to make crucial decisions about the world, then we want the fake fake news, aka., the real news.

So how do we ask questions that lead to the best, more useful answers?

Ask everyone to Speak Up about the stuff that gets their blood flowing, so to speak.

Best Things (Loves): What most precious people, places, and things in the universe do you most value and want to take good care of?

Challenges (Losses): How have you struggled, or are struggling, with being able to protect the people, places, and things you love?

Purpose (Dreams): What do you most want to create and/or explore in this vast universe? (Eg., stuff for taking good care of physical bodies, for creating heathy living spaces, for building healthy communities on a larger scale, and for generating the most flourishing global culture possible.)

Needs (Hopes): What basic resources does your body most need in order to continue to work on your life’s purpose effectively? (In general: inputs of high quality food, water, air, warmth, light, information, and outlets for expressing the body’s excess solids, liquids, gases, and energy.)
