Control versus freedom. Predictability versus unpredictability. Arbitrariness versus randomness.

Life is messy, and fluctuating, and we sometimes want to learn how to deal with the unknown better.

Here’s a bit of my story of how I learned to live with the chaos of a messy life.

I gave up thinking I could plan, and control, everything.

I understood that failure and sadness are a normal part of the learning/grieving process.

I learned to let go of my attachment to the details of what I loved and lost, while embracing the more important overall ideals and ideas of what I still want to get, so that I might find something similar but new that the universe might be happy to give me.

And I learned to see that the whole fluid movement of the interacting stories of all of our lives is beautiful on a large scale, even if the details of my own situations might be ugly sometimes.

The Big Picture:

My big goal that is getting very much closer, thanks to generous donations, is starting a non-profit community resource hub with resident artists, techies, and educators all working with the community to find creative solutions using available resources to serve the needs of the community members freely and unconditionally so that everyone can be their best possible selves. I’m currently (Summer 2018) starting to seriously look for (very cheap) property, ideally an old farm, probably in mid-coast Maine, and seeking folks who can help figure out the legal stuff of starting a non-profit or whatever, and putting the property into a trust so that it’s always there to serve the needs of those who live there.

I’ve also created a Patreon creator account for those who believe that my work is valuable and who have an excess number of banking points (aka $’s, £’s, ¥, or whatever).

.

Humans are extraordinarily majestic when it comes to the arts and sciences, and as we move into the future where technology — computers, AI (if we ever help truly intelligent synthetic beings evolve), robots, etc. — can take over the jobs that we humans find boring or dangerous in a bothersome way, humanity will become far more free to focus on exploring and creating new art and science.

So what is art? What is science?

Art is the emotional connection and communication with various media — the two-dimensional relationship between you and your medium, or you and your audience (via a medium/media). Art is the individual, subjective stories of what it’s like to be an individual relating to someone or something else in our big ol’ universe.

And science is taking two more more of those art stories and simplifying, analyzing, and comparing them to one another, collectively, to find the important similarities and differences so that we can generate a more broad, literally objective, view of reality.

art + art = science

art + art = science

DOWNLOAD (right click to save linked file): TWTS – Episode 68 – Serotonin is the Soul?

Serotonin is the deep, philosophical, self-defining chemical that governs our most important connection with external reality.

Dopamine is the physical motivation chemical, but serotonin is the one that *inspires* you to become your best possible self, and find your place in the grand experience of the whole universe of space and time. When you are feeling at one with the universe, in pure euphoria, naturally, it’s because serotonin is letting you know that your patterns of biological input and output are literally synchronized with reality’s grand purpose.

A discussion about this podcast on Reddit: Serotonin: it’s probably not what you think it is. It’s definitely not what mainstream science and media portray it to be. Serotonin is your soul, which comes online around age 39.75.

A little wandering exploration of one of the most basic elements of the universe, the it-y “thingness” of each of the individual elements within reality, from atoms to alligators to Alisons.

These “its” are all about containment, stability, and separation/connection to the rest of existence.

And there are levels. The more boring things are pretty compact and stable. What is “you”, on the other hand, is much more fuzzy, with the center of you being the electromagnetic matter that forms your body, and the edges of you being the little bits of you that are more free flowing outward into the rest of the universe, only held moderately closely to your center through the gravity that holds humanity close to the Earth.

Is what you’re trying to do really important to you to do? But what you’re doing just isn’t working? Are all of your efforts being rejected by whomever you’re trying to help, yourself, your friend/family/companion, your community, your whole culture?

Look at offering help on a different level, then.

There are four basic levels of offering good things to reality:

Physical: first person offerings to the outside environment

Emotional: second person offerings to someone you are close to

Intellectual: third person offerings to the larger infrastructure of the system/group you are a part of

Philosophical: fourth person offerings to the whole world (and beyond)

If you’re failing to accomplish your goals of improving things on one level, try to do something useful at one of the other levels that will indirectly help things at the level you care about most.

There are no good words. I attempt anyway. You make the universe vaster and deeper when some of the wiggly bits of you complement some of the wiggly bits of me, in some deeply valuable way. Thank you to those of you who have impacted my life, in immeasurable ways, by offering your unique selves to me. You’ve made me a far better human being than I imagined possible.

Special thanks goes out to my beloved David. There really are no good words.

But, thank you from all of the cells in my body, nonetheless.

With you I can fly

TWTS – Who Haven’t You Asked

.

I have a saying “Who haven’t you asked yet?” I guess it stemmed from my quest for answers about how to grow healthfully, and how to deal with anger, after realizing that both I and my beloved husband were so very angry. I found my best answers by looking in all kinds of weird places. Leaving no stone unturned, as they say. By listening to so many different types of individuals, instead of just the ones who were similar to me, I found some really unexpected perspectives which led to some great solutions.

We can form questions in different ways to get the attention of different kinds of individuals, who have different perspectives on the subject. These can be anything from different parts of our own brain to other animals, vegetables, minerals, and whatnot that we encounter in our lives — anything that happens to have some kind of information that we might not have, or haven’t yet tried to apply to our current problem we’re trying to solve.

Here are the kinds of questions that we can ask, in chronological order, as we seek to achieve a goal and encounter a problematic something or other (X):

Physical (Negative/Past): What caused X?

Emotional: What do others think of my theory about what caused X?

Intellectual: How does my theory fail to predict reality?

Philosophical: What IS reality (here and now)?

Physical (Positive/Future): How can we work WITH reality (to achieve our goal)?

.

What do they know?
Did you ask them?

(Oh, and inertia was the word I was looking for!)
